AbacusConsulting - SAP Utilities Conference
Lahore, July 29, 2010: Mr. Tahir Basharat Cheema, Managing Director Pakistan Electric Power Company (Private) Limited (PEPCO) emphasized today that electricity utility companies need to invest in acquiring new IT technologies and processes, along with increasing the generation capacity, to improve management capacity and curtail operational cost.
Speaking as a keynote speaker at a conference on “SAP-enabled Business Transformation in Pakistan’s Utilities Sector”, organized by SAP & AbacusConsulting, Mr. Cheema said that recourse to new technologies has become urgent for the utilities, particularly when the country is faced with severe power crisis. ‘This power crisis”, he added, “is considered to be the worst of the four such crises the nation has faced since 1974-75”.
The focus of the said conference was on how SAP is contributing to the achievement of key business objectives through process enablement and automation in the Utilities Sector in Pakistan.

SAP Business One has gone live at Dawn Bread (Dawn Group of Companies). AbacusConsulting was the SAP Business One Implementation partner.

MTBF Project delivers Medium Term Budget and Budget Strategy Paper for Federal Government
The Medium Term Budgetary Framework (MTBF) project, hosted a dinner to celebrate the successful achievement of key milestones on the Federal MTBF project.
The project delivered a medium term budget for service delivery and the budget strategy paper for the entire federal government, which was presented in the Cabinet, Parliament and the Senate, on the day of budget speech.
The event took place at a local restaurant in Islamabad on Thursday, 3rd June 2010.
In recognition of their exceptional performances, trophies were presented to Mr. Azfer Shehzad from the Budgeting Team and Mr. Muhammad Sarwar from the IT Team, by Mr. John Gray (Team Leader, MTBF).
All the key members of the team were present, including Mr. Aamer Chaudhry (Partner, AbacusConsulting), Mr. John Gray (Team Leader, MTBF), Mr. Nohman Ishtiaq (National Technical Advisor, MTBF and Director, AbacusConsulting), Mr. Ayub Khan (Deputy Team Lead, MTBF and VP AbacusConsulting) and Mr. Ghannam Wasif (Work Steam Leader, IT and Senior Managing Consulting, AbacusConsulting), among the entire project staff.

AbacusConsulting - No Tobacco (No Smoking) Day
United Nations had set aside May 31st as a "No Tobacco Day". AbacusConsulting joined the noble cause and to create awareness of the hazards of smoking, arranged awareness sessions for its employees, at offices, across Pakistan.
The first session was held at AbacusConsulting in Lahore. Dr. Sumera Butt and Ms. Sadiya Ajmal from Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, conducted the session.
The second session held at Karachi, was conducted by Dr. Iqtedar Ahmed and Mr. Mudassir Habib from from Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre.
The third session held at Islamabad, was conducted by Dr. Muhammad Azfar and Mr. Mirza rizwan Baig from Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre.
World No Tobacco Day is observed around the world every year on May 31. It is meant to encourage a 24-hour period of abstinence from all forms of tobacco consumption across the globe. The day is further intended to draw global attention to the widespread prevalence of tobacco use and to negative health effects, which currently lead to deaths worldwide annually. The member states of the World Health Organization (WHO) created World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) in 1987. In the past twenty years, the day has been met with both enthusiasm and resistance across the globe from governments, public health organizations, smokers, growers, and the tobacco industry.
Leadership and Management Conference - Karachi, Pakistan
Karachi: Pakistan Society for Human Resource Management (PSHRM), organized “Leadership and Management" Conference on May 4, 2010, at the DHA Golf Club in Karachi.

Briefing Session for Parliamentarians on the New Budget Process in Pakistan
Islamabad, May 05: A briefing session for Parliamentarians on the new budget process in Pakistan was held in Islamabad. 48 MNAs and 15 Senators from the PPPP, PML-N, PML, MQM and ANP including representatives from FATA participated in the PILDAT briefing including 5 Federal Ministers and 3 Ministers of State.
Mr. Nohman Ishtiaq, Director AbacusConsulting and National Technical Advisor MTBF Project, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the new budget management reform programme introduced by the Federal Government called the Medium-Term Budgetary Framework (MTBF). He explained that the upcoming Federal Budget will be based on the model known as Medium-Term Budget Estimates by Service Delivery which would present 1 year budget and 2 years projections for services (outputs) delivered by each Ministry / Division. The services are also linked with outcomes (affects on target population) and with the performance indicators and targets.
He further added, “MTBF has already been introduced in the countries such as United States of America, Canada, Australia, Great Britain and South Africa. Now for the first time Pakistan has taken initiative to implement MTBF in its budgetary process as well”.
Mr. Ishtiaq said, “Budget is a vital instrument at both the macro and micro level in Pakistan and MTBF aims to improve the budgetary process in Pakistan. MTBF also hopes to bring more accountability across the board”.

AbacusConsulting and PMU-BOR Punjab Ink Agreement for Automation of Board of Revenue, Punjab
LAHORE: AbacusConsulting has signed an agreement with Project Management Unit (PMU)-Board of Revenue (BOR), Punjab for the automation of Board of Revenue, Punjab. Under this agreement, AbacusConsulting would provide consultancy services for the improvement in the overall efficiency and effectiveness of Board of Revenue, Punjab.
The contract was signed by Mr. Abbas Ali Khan, Partner, AbacusConsulting and Mr. Ali Raza Bhutta, Project Director, PMU-BOR at a contract signing ceremony held on Friday at the office of PMU-BOR.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Abbas Ali Khan, Partner, AbacusConsulting, said, “AbacusConsulting is delighted to be associated with BOR, Punjab, as its automation partner.
